Types of Draw Latches We Manufacture

From light-duty flight case latches to heavy-duty industrial clamps, we produce all major draw latch types in-house with die casting, stamping, and CNC machining.

Over-Center Toggle Latches

Lever passes through a geometric dead point, creating a self-locking effect. Cannot be opened by external vibration forces. Standard for machine guards, equipment covers, and vibrating enclosures.

Load: 200–5,000 N • Vibration-proof

Adjustable Draw Latches

Threaded hook or barrel nut allows on-site adjustment of draw (pull-up distance) to compensate for gasket compression set, panel tolerance, or payload variation. Fine-tune clamping force without replacing the latch.

Adjustment: ±3–6 mm • Load: 100–2,000 N

Spring-Loaded Draw Latches

Internal spring maintains constant tension as the gasket compresses over time. Ideal for flight cases, instrument cases, and applications where consistent sealing force is critical despite repeated open/close cycles.

Load: 50–500 N • Self-compensating

Concealed Draw Latches

Latch mechanism hidden inside the panel or door edge. Clean exterior with no visible hardware. Operated by tool (hex key) or hidden pull. For enclosures requiring tamper resistance and clean aesthetics.

Load: 100–1,000 N • Tamper-resistant

Hook & Loop Draw Latches

Simple hook-and-catch mechanism for light-duty applications. Easiest to install and operate. Common on toolbox lids, storage bins, and non-critical covers where security is not required.

Load: 50–300 N • Tool-free install

Padlockable Draw Latches

Padlock hole or hasp on the lever allows padlock insertion for security and OSHA LOTO compliance. Essential for equipment enclosures, electrical panels, and any application requiring lockout/tagout procedures.

OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147 • Padlock-ready

Draw Latch Selection Guide

Choose the right draw latch based on clamping force, material, and application requirements. All models support OEM customization of hook length, keeper style, and finish.

Materials & Clamping Force Calculations

Material Options

Zinc-Plated Cold-Rolled Steel

Most economical draw latch material. Stamped for high-volume production. Zinc plating or powder coating for indoor environments. Salt spray 96+ hours. Standard for toolboxes and general enclosures.

Zamak 5 Zinc Alloy (Die-Cast)

Best strength-to-cost ratio. Complex geometries possible via die casting. Chrome plated or powder coated. Standard for equipment covers and access panels.

304 Stainless Steel

Outdoor and food-processing grade. Passivated or brushed finish. Salt spray 500+ hours. Suitable for marine, HVAC, and washdown applications.

316 Stainless Steel

Marine and chemical grade. Salt spray 1,500+ hours per ASTM B117. Required for coastal, pharmaceutical, and chemical processing environments where 304 SS is insufficient.

Clamping Force Calculator

Use this formula to determine the required draw latch rating for your gasketed enclosure:

Step 1: Gasket force = perimeter (cm) × 3–7 N/cm

Step 2: + Internal pressure force (if any)

Step 3: + Door weight component (if vertical)

Step 4: Total ÷ number of latches

Step 5: × 2 safety factor (3–4× for vibration)

Example:

600×400 mm enclosure, 2,000 mm gasket perimeter at 5 N/cm = 1,000 N total. With 4 draw latches at 2× safety: select latches rated 500 N minimum each.

Vibration Resistance

Over-center toggle latches are inherently vibration-resistant because the lever must pass through a dead point to open. External vibration forces push the lever further into the locked position, not out of it. For vehicle-mounted, genset, and rail applications, over-center draw latches are the correct choice. Our toggle latches passIEC 60068-2-6 vibration testing at 10–55 Hz, 0.75 mm amplitude with zero disengagement.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a draw latch?▼

A draw latch is a two-piece fastening mechanism that creates tension between two surfaces. The latch body mounts to the door/lid; the keeper mounts to the frame. When closed, the lever pulls the surfaces together, compressing any gasket. Used on toolboxes, flight cases, industrial enclosures, and equipment covers with forces from 50 N to 5,000 N.

What is the difference between a draw latch and a toggle latch?▼

All toggle latches are draw latches, but not all draw latches are toggle latches. A toggle latch uses an over-center mechanism that creates a self-locking effect, making it vibration-resistant. Other draw latch types use different mechanisms. Read our detailed comparison.

How do I calculate the clamping force I need?▼

Calculate gasket compression force (3–7 N/cm of perimeter), add internal pressure and weight components, divide by number of latches, then apply a 2x safety factor (3–4x for vibrating equipment). See our draw latch guide for worked examples.

Can draw latches be locked?▼

Yes. Padlock hole (most common, OSHA LOTO compatible), integrated key cylinder, or tool-actuated concealed operation. For equipment enclosures and electrical panels, padlockable draw latches meet OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147 requirements.

What is the MOQ for custom draw latches?▼

MOQ is 500 pcs for catalogue models, 2,000 pcs for custom designs. Stamping tools ready in 15–20 days. Die-cast tooling 30–45 days. CNC prototypes in 7–10 days for fit testing before tooling commitment.
