Draw Latches & Toggle Latches

Toggle latches and draw latches with spring-loaded clamping for toolboxes, flight cases, and equipment covers.

21 models available

Draw latches and toggle latches use an over-center clamping mechanism to pull two surfaces together under controlled tension. When the lever passes over center, it locks into a mechanically stable position that resists vibration and shock loads without loosening. Draw latches are the preferred fastening solution for toolboxes, flight cases, equipment covers, industrial ovens, and any enclosure requiring tool-free open/close cycles with repeatable clamping force. Hengchieh manufactures 21 draw latch and toggle latch models with load ratings from 50 N to 5,000 N.

Engineering Selection Criteria

Clamping Force Calculation

The required clamping force depends on gasket compression (for sealed enclosures) or vibration resistance (for transport cases). As a rule of thumb, calculate gasket compression force per linear meter of seal, then divide by the number of latch points. For vibration applications, factor in dynamic loads at 3-5x static weight. Our datasheets list both static hold force and dynamic rated load for every model.

Adjustable vs. Fixed Hook

Fixed-hook draw latches are simpler and more economical but require precise keeper positioning during installation. Adjustable-hook models compensate for manufacturing tolerances and gasket wear over time. For any application with a compressible gasket, adjustable models save time during installation and extend service intervals.

Material Selection for Load & Environment

Steel latches (zinc-plated or black oxide) handle the highest loads and are standard for industrial tooling. 304 stainless steel is required for food, pharmaceutical, or outdoor marine environments. For lightweight cases and instrument covers, zinc alloy provides adequate strength at reduced weight.

Cycle Life & Maintenance

Standard draw latches are rated for 10,000+ open/close cycles. Spring-loaded toggle variants with hardened pivot pins exceed 50,000 cycles. For high-cycle applications (production line access panels, packaging equipment), specify stainless pivot pins and self-lubricating bushings.
