Compression Latch Types We Manufacture
Every compression latch converts rotational input into axial compression, but the handle geometry, actuation method, and cam design vary by application. We produce all four major types in-house.
Quarter-Turn Compression Latches
Flush-mounted with coin slot, hex, or triangular drive. 90° rotation locks and compresses. Lowest profile — ideal for indoor server racks and control panels where tool-operated access is acceptable.
Stroke: 2–4 mm • Depth: 22–32 mm
Adjustable Compression Latches
Cam stroke adjustable on-site to compensate for panel tolerance and gasket set over time. Threaded shaft or eccentric cam allows ±2 mm fine tuning without replacing the latch.
Stroke: 3–8 mm • Adjustable ±2 mm
Key-Locking Compression Latches
Integrated cylinder lock prevents unauthorized access. Keyed-alike, keyed-different, and master-keyed options. Essential for outdoor telecom cabinets, EV charging enclosures, and electrical panels requiring LOTO compliance.
Lock types: Pin tumbler, Tubular, Disc detainer
Lever Handle Compression Latches
L-shaped or T-shaped handle provides manual leverage for compressing heavy gaskets on large enclosure doors. Tool-free operation preferred for HVAC, genset, and food processing equipment with frequent access.
Stroke: 3–6 mm • Depth: 28–45 mm

| IP65 | NEMA 4 | Dust-tight, water jets | Zinc / SS304 |

| IP67 | NEMA 4X | Dust-tight, immersion 1m | SS316 |
Vibration Resistance
Unlike plain quarter-turn locks that loosen under vibration, compression latches preload the door against its gasket. The gasket acts as a spring that keeps the cam seated. For vehicle-mounted, genset, rail, and marine enclosures we specify compression latches with a detented cam as standard — the cam clicks into position and requires intentional force to rotate back, preventing vibration walk-out. Our latches passIEC 60068-2-6 vibration testing at 10–55 Hz, 0.75 mm amplitude.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a compression latch used for?▼
A compression latch secures enclosure doors while compressing a gasket to create dust-tight and water-resistant seals. They are used on electrical distribution cabinets, telecom enclosures, HVAC equipment housings, EV charging stations, data center cabinets, food processing equipment, and any application requiring IP65 to IP67 environmental protection.
What IP rating can your compression latches achieve?▼
With proper gasket selection, our compression latches achieve IP54 through IP67. Standard EPDM gaskets reach IP65 (NEMA 4). Silicone gaskets with 316 stainless steel bodies reach IP66/IP67 (NEMA 4X). We provide gasket compression calculations for each project to ensure your enclosure meets its target rating.
What is the MOQ for custom compression latches?▼
MOQ is 500 pieces for catalogue models with standard finishes. Custom cam length, keying, or handle design requires 2,000 pieces minimum. CNC prototype samples ship in 7–10 days before tooling commitment. New die-cast tooling runs 30–45 days. Mold costs subsidized 30–100% based on annual volume.
What materials are available for compression latches?▼
Standard materials include Zamak 5 zinc alloy (die-cast), 304 stainless steel (outdoor), 316 stainless steel (marine/food/NEMA 4X), and engineering plastics (non-conductive). Finishes include bright chrome, powder coating (RAL colors), brushed stainless, and black oxide. 316 SS passes 1,500+ hour salt spray per ASTM B117.
What is the difference between a compression latch and a quarter-turn lock?▼
Both rotate 90 degrees, but a quarter-turn lock only swings a flat cam to hold the door closed with no compression force. A compression latch uses a ramped cam that converts rotation into 2–8 mm of axial travel, actively pulling the door against its gasket for an IP65+ seal. Read our detailed compression latch vs quarter-turn comparison.
Can compression latches be keyed alike?▼
Yes. Key-locking compression latches come in keyed-alike, keyed-different, and master-keyed configurations. We maintain key databases across production batches for consistency — your technician opens every enclosure across multiple sites with one key.
